The Caterpillar Demonstration and Learning Center in Edwards, IL will be hosting Tryouts on August 3, 2019 for Equipment Operators to showcase their skills and abilities behind the controls of some of the biggest and best equipment available. The team is seeking two well-qualified and talented individuals to join the ranks of some of the best Equipment Operators in the world in order to help our customers improve their machine skills and knowledge. This role is based at our facility in Edwards, IL. This position is not eligible for remote work - all candidates for consideration must be able to relocate if selected.

Job Purpose

A Demonstrator Instructor at Caterpillar is a highly skilled machine operator who effectively and safely demonstrates Caterpillar products to provide operation and application training to our customers, dealers, and internal personnel. In addition, members of this team will: 

  • Contribute to marketing programs
  • Provide support to dealers and customers in the sale of Caterpillar products and services
  • Deliver an outstanding experience for all equipment related programs globally at various demonstration and learning centers, dealer locations, and customer job sites
  • Utilize vast knowledge of product and application for practical experience in order to assist product groups in research and development of new products

The Demonstrator Instructor has a fast-paced and ever-changing workday. This role is part of a small team of extraordinary operators who wear several hats. The team motto is "perfect is close enough," and that is the approach taken every single day. In this role, you could be working on a project in the field, training customer operators, demonstrating equipment, conducting a machine photoshoot, or helping with the development of future products. This team is perfect for those who are always looking for a new challenge and enjoys frequently changing scenery. You can see the world and travel to exciting locations to help the dealer deliver a new machine, provide support for a trade show, or conduct a production study utilizing the Scale Truck. The one constant for the team: the dedication to perfection and full commitment to service and presentation when representing Caterpillar and the Edwards Demonstration Center. 

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • At least 10 years of experience operating equipment within the heavy construction, quarry/aggregates, or mining industries
  • Operational experience on at least four different product family machines
  • Experience with and working knowledge of various construction technologies (i.e. GPS, lasers, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams both internally and externally, at all levels of the organization
  • Able to deliver presentations with the highest level of professionalism in a classroom environment, in the field - while being able to win over potentially hostile audiences
  • Able to contribute individually while supporting a tight-knit team to meet required performance deliverables
  • Able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% annually to both domestic and international destinations

Typical Job Duties

  • Operate equipment in product demonstration sequences and narrate from the cab to highlight features and capabilities, communicate operating techniques, display effective application and safety practices, and demonstrate various technologies available on our products
  • Become a certified equipment trainer on all Caterpillar product families
  • Evaluate pre-production and current product in order to perform a competitive analysis of similar products available in the market
  • Support Caterpillar initiatives for Industry Trade Shows
  • Support the delivery and setup of new machines for the customer and dealers
  • Conduct facility maintenance including site prep, erosion control, road maintenance, etc.
